Carlson Update: September 8, 2025
Check out the Viking white paper below. The all-new Viking has been developed over the last 8 years and utilizes the Gama engine first introduced with the RTk5. The Viking sets a new standard for survey grade GNSS measurement with the following features:
1. Triple Fix: The Viking has 3 distinct RTK engines from 3 distinct manufacturers (Carlson, Septentrio and Ublox) —if all 3 engines fix within a defined narrow proximity, the software reports Triple Fix, the first of its kind in the industry. This virtually eliminates any possibility of a false fix.
2. Fast, No Calibration IMU Support: You can call it “Zero Calibration.” It just knows the tilt and direction of your GNSS unit. Shown in the documentation, tilting the Viking to 60 degrees from vertical and still obtaining sub-centimeter accuracy on the known coordinate. If an icon indicates calibration is lost, just swing the pole to recover.
Please note, this is a higher-end receiver than the BRx7 and priced as such, but both have a place in the market. We plan to offer both the Viking and BRx7 for the foreseeable future as part of a Carlson "family" of GNSS products.
Carlson Vasco Base Station debuted for the Machine Control market in the Spring and is now in the price pages for the Survey and Construction markets. It is a great solution for a company or municipality looking to have a permanent base station installed at their office. It also uses the Gama engine and was the first GNSS assembled in Maysville.
